Remarks.—This race, intermediate in size between its nearest western and southern neighbours, sagitta and grandis, has evidently been present in New South Wales for a very long time, according to its once wide dis- tribution, and the fossil remains found at Wellington; Krefft remarked that the fossil teeth were larger and rather different to recent ones, but this may be discounted by his probably not being aware of the marked growth changes, and! the remains may reasonably be taken as indicative of the long establishment of the local race. 7.
