There is such a marvelousradiance of color—the turquoise ])lue, thepassionately warm red, the deep blue thatseems to have been obtained from thetropic sky. the delicate pinks of theafterglow, and the wonderful tints are very delicate and soft-ened by age, so that some of tlie blueshave been transformed into turfpioisetouched with green, and the pinks shadeinto coralline. The Kiosque, or Pharaohs Bed, hasbeen so often painted and photographed THE PACIFIC UNITARIAN 11. that it is almost as familiar as theSphinx or the Great Pyramid, and yetthe traveler is never quite prepared forits exquisite beauty. It is only a smallbuilding, but delicate and airv^, the unionof loveliness of color and form and theembodiment of the feminine in architec-ture. It is easy to become a worshipperof the Infinite under the form of thebeautiful when rowed within its while the boat is rocked by the littlewaves it seems a place to dream and letthe beauty of the scene completely floodthe soul. Looking out through the columns ofthe Kiosque, the color effects are alwayschanging. In the early morning delicatecolors tint its columns; at midday agolden glow of molten metal causes theearth to seem on fire; while in the even-ing it becomes an enchanted world robedwith magical beauty that lifts the soulinto the realm of ecstasy. At sunset thecolors are intensified, the orange becom-ing like glowing gold, the yellow ischanged to burnished brass, a
