Folding fan, with leaf from side on which a company in gouache in a love altar with burning heart and turtle pigeons and on either side the balloon of Montgolfier brothers surrounded by metal lovers, on a frame of leg inlaid with 'Métal and Quattrecouleurs'. At the beginning of the 1780s, sides and satin impeller blades were decorated with lovers and sequins plenty of fashion in France. Most preserved impellers '(évail) au balloon' therefore have a leaf of beige side, painted performances and decorations of or non-colored metal sequins. On the back of this single sheet, mounted à l'Anglaise, the signature is still visible. The historical moment of the first balloon flight by the Montgolfier brothers, on December 1, 1783, is usually portrayed with the flight used, half with a net covered, striped balloon, including a boat-shaped gondola with the brothers, each with a stick with a Keep a pennant in their hand. The large central cartouche shows a representation that has nothing to do with the balloon flight; namely, the famous wedding theme that is depicted with the help of traditional symbolism. A marriage altar on which two burning hearts and two tortane pigeons surrounded by sacrificing people. The combination of 'marriage' with 'air balloon' nowadays seems pretty unusual, but given the number of preserved examples, it should not be experienced by contemporaries as strange.
