The principal fiords from the north southwards,are Milford, Bligh, George, Caswell, Charles, Nancy,Thompson, Doubtful, Daggs, Breaksea, Dusky, andChalky and Preservation Inlets. The mostprominent capes are West Cape, Five Fingers Point,and Puysegur Cape. The actual coast fronting the ocean is not a verysteep one, but is covered everywhere by a thickmantle of vegetation. This in itself proves that theland is gradually moving up or down, otherwisethe ceaseless roll of the Southern Ocean would haveformed high and steep cliffs. The freshness of theterraces indicates that the movement is one ofelevation. In places some of the fiords unite; thus Resolutionand Secretary Islands are separated from the main-land, the one by Thompson Sound, the other byAcheron Passage. The southern coast is in its weste
