Lee, to be found in Vol. XIII.,Southern Historical Papers, page 247, in speaking of the battle ofSailors Creek, after having concluded his general report of thatbattle says : * I was informed at General Wrights headquarters, whither Iwas carried after my capture, that 30,000 men were engaged withus when we surrendered, viz., two infantry corps and Custers andMerritts divisions of cavalry, the whole under command of GeneralSheridan.
