A sabre M 1786/1796 for the Russian light cavalry, presumably an officer's version Single-edged blade with fullers on both sides. The obverse with etched cypher "E II" for Catherine the Great. The reverse with depiction of a mounted hussar and inscription "Viwat Hußar". The back of the blade with etched Cyrillic name "COLNHIE"(?). Iron knuckle-bow hilt. The quillons fitted with a rectangular piercing for accepting the sword-knot. Leather-covered wooden grip and scabbard, the latter with iron mountings.
