Massacre of the peasant rebels at Meaux, (1358), c1475. Illustration from Jean Froissart's chronicles, showing the Jacquerie (popular revolt) in the town of Meaux. Gaston de Foix and the Captal de Buch throw the bodies into the River Marne. In reprisal, the town was sacked and the mayor hanged. From the collection of the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris.
