DICKSON, (Secretary). RAILROAD DIGEST June, 1901 BOGIE TRUCKS FOR. ELECTRIC RAILWAY CARS-II By George L. Fowler. (Continued from page The Bemis Car Box Company also builds another truck, shown in Fig. 7. The difference between the two liesmainly in the arrangement of the springs. The longi-tudinal semi-elliptic spring is dispensed with and the tran-sems are fastened directly to the wheel pieces. Thebolster is carried by a nest of four helical springs at eachend in the same manner as in the common designs of. diamond trucks. The frames are carried on pedestalsprings that serve to relieve the parts of the direct jarfrom the wheels. Such a truck is strong, light andinexpensive to construct, but it is not at all likely that itwill give the same ease of motion as where more care istaken in the spring suspension. It is becoming more andmore difficult to secure good riding of electric cars onaccount of the rapid increase in loads and speeds. In Fig. 8 we have a truck that is very extensively usedand which is made by the Peckham Manufacturing Com-pany, of Kingston, New York. Like the Bemis truck, de- scribed in Fig. 5, this also is carried by a triple seriesof springs between the body and the wheel. The bolster is formed of two fiat plates set on edgeand carried at their extremities by a casting that formsa spring casting to attach the bolster to the semi-ellipticspring. In this casting and concealed so as not to appearin the drawing, there is a buffer spring to limit thelater
