Dun Fiadhairt Iron Age broch, Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK, looking W along the S mural gallery to the main W entrance passage with an adult male figure

Dun Fiadhairt Iron Age broch, Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK, looking W along the S mural gallery to the main W entrance. The passage has two door checks & two opposed guard cells: the figure looks into the N one. The circular central court (R) measures c across within a double wall c thick still standing up to 2m high. Unusually, the broch has an opposed secondary entrance at the E, a narrow passage lacking guard cells. The gallery taking up most of the S side of the broch leads from the secondary passage. On the N side of the court one doorway leads into twin cells & a second to stairs rising from a cell or short gallery. A 'roadway' between walls approaches the W entrance. The broch was excavated in 1914 by Countess Vincent Baillet de Latour FSA (Scot), a Roman terracotta model of a bale of hides or fleeces was found.
