Though de-cided in his opinions and undisguisedill liis conduct, he could not truly bedenominated the zialot of party. Evenhis enemies, (if enemies he had, oithose wiio knew not his wortli) will notdeny him the^merit of impartiality and? magnanimity. It is not, however, tobe dissembled, that he was a warm ad-vocate for the principles and measuresof our beloved WAsiiiNCiTox, and forthose of the friends and admirers of thatsainted Patriot. And with this convic-1tion, it was impossible for a man of hissincerity and gfreatness of mind, to beguilty of any temporizing- conduct, orof a change of opinion for the sake ofpopularity or promotion. He was oneof those rare cliaracters, icho preferthe pnhUc good to the 2^ub/ic with those who can distinguish thefeatures of the sincere patriot,his civicvirtues and services will ever be hi^-hlvappreciated.
