Bamburgh Castle: a Victorian restoration by the 1st Lord Armstrong of a Norman castle on the site of an Anglo-Saxon royal city.

Bamburgh Castle & beach seen from Harkess Rocks in late evening sunshine. Once the site of an Anglo-Saxon royal city, (& possibly an Agricolan Roman fort) the Normans built a castle here which was restored by the 1st Lord Armstrong in 1894-1903. Substantial remains of a church have been uncovered within the defences.
