Oklahoma Tornado, Full Disk View, 2013


This full-disk image (taken on May 21, 2013) from NOAA's GOES-13 satellite at 20:45 UTC (3:45 EDT) shows the storm system in the south central on 20, 2013 that generated Moore Oklahoma tornado. The Moore twister was an F-4 tornado (winds between 166 and 200 mph) that touched down around 2:52 CDT and dissipated around 3"36 CDT. Overall, severe weather associated with the storm was responsible for 29 fatalities (25 from tornadoes) and nearly 400 injuries in the United States. Additionally, damage was estimated to amount to $2-5 billion, making it one of the costliest severe weather events on record.
