The paved entrance passage of Dun Beag Iron Age broch, Struanmore, Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK, looking NW to the inner court with a corbelled cell (R)

The paved entrance passage of Dun Beag Iron Age broch, Struanmore, Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK, looking NW to the inner court. Within the wall to the R is a corbelled cell entered from the courtyard. The passage widens a third of the way in to form stepped door checks against which a stone or timber barrier could be secured. The broch's circular inner court is just under 11m across, the double wall containing cells, a gallery and stairway is up to thick. The upper levels of the tower have collapsed, but the walls survive up to high in places. The broch is one of the best preserved on Skye, it was excavated in the early 1900s by Countess Vincent Baillet de Latour FSA (Scot). The broch stands on a rocky knoll above land sloping down to the shore.
