Origin, Bel- mont, Mass. It has sold the Boston mar- ket the past two years at from 40 per cent, to 60 per cent, above other varieties, it is unusually productive and profitable, the fruit from }4 acre brought last season. *-Blos- som perfect, season late, fruit large, crimson color, oblong in shape, very solid and sweet,, of extra flavor and quality. It colors all over evenly and perfectly, and is a remarkably good keeper and ; As it blooms late, is not liable to be injured by late spring frosts, like the Sharpless and others. The fruit committee of the Mass. Hort'I Society in 1883 awarded to the Belmont' Hon. M. P. Wilder's special prize of SIO for the best four quarts of the variety of the best form^ color^ and quality. The same committee visited the origina^ tor's grounds June 21,1884, and report: *'The plants are of unusually strong growth, and bearing an exceedingly heavy crop of fruity berries large size, good form and color, qual- ity much like Sharpless, and its firm fleshy and exceptionally good keeping qualities,, must make it desirable'as a market variety^ while its fine quality and attractive appear* ance will insure it a place in the private gar« den,".
