Loomisand Chamberlain, began work at Oahu. Soon theprinting-press of the former was running, and thefirst spelling-books for these people were Ruggles and Whitney went to Kauai,where a chapel and school were soon built, theking and his chiefs being among their first pupilsboth in the teachings of church and school. Thurston and Doctor Holman, with theirwives, settled at Kailua, on the island of Hawaii,which historic spot is still pointed out to thenewcomer as one of great interest.
