Acheulean stone tool and the hammer stone (upper right) used to create it. Acheulean tools were first made in the lower palaeolithic (stone age), notably by Homo ergaster, which lived between and million years ago. The earliest Acheulean tools are from around million years ago. They were the dominant technology of the time, and lasted until around 100,000 years ago. Acheulean tool making involved the removal of several flakes of stone to create a much longer cutting blade than the older tools.
