Improvements made in recent years in size, texture and col- oring are really phenomenal, with flowers frequently measuring from 4| to 6 inches across, and colors ranging from the purest white and the most delicate tints of pink, yellow and orange to the most intense scar- let and richest crimson, while the double-flowering soits are perfect rosettes, full and double to the centre. Their culture is of the sim- plest ; they delight in a rich, mellow, well-drained soil, where they can be lilierally supplied with water, preferatly in a position where they will be well shaded from the direct rays of the sun during the hot- test hours of the day, and will succeed equally well grown as pot plants for the conservatory or window garden. On the approach of cold weather the tubers should be taken up, and, after drying, stored away in dry sand or similar material in a cool place, free from frost until spring.
