There are now five general stores andthe usual number of smaller business estab-lishments. There is one stave factory, whichhas been in operation for a number of years,and also a mill. The Bollinger County bank,with a capital of $25,000, was incorporated in1891, and the Peoples Bank of Lutesville,with a capital of $12,000 was iucoqioratedin 1903. The pop-ulation of Lutesville is 551. The LutesvilleBaniur is a weekly paper and is Republicanin politics. Gayoso This town received its name in honor of theSpanish governor of Louisiana, Don ManuelGayoso. When the site was selected for thecounty seat of Pemiscot county in April, 1851,there was not a house standing on the fiftyacres of land purchased by the land was bought from James A. McFar-land and the town was surveyed by WilliamBigham. No house was erected until 1854,when Sanford Jackson built a small next house was built by Charles A. Kim-ball.
