Sedative pills. Box and blister packs of Rohypnol tranquillizer pills. Each pill contains one milli- gram of the benzodiazepine drug flunitrazepam. This has gained notoriety as the \date rape\" drug. When dissolved in an alcoholic drink, it renders the taker sleepy and suggestible. A blue dye has been added to the pills to prevent this occurring unnoticed. Rohypnol is normally prescribed as a sleeping pill in cases of insomnia. Benzodiazepine drugs work by increasing the amount of the inhibitory neurotransmitter chemical GABA (gamma- aminobutyric acid) in the brain. This suppresses brain activity, leading to sedation."
