Valley of Fire State Park Visitor Center in Nevada, United States

Valley of Fire State Park is the oldest state park in the jurisdiction of Nevada, in the western United States, having been designated a National Natural Landmark in 1968. It covers almost 42,000 acres (17,000 hectares) and was formally established in 1935. Its name is derived from the red sandstone formations, which were formed from large dunes during the age of the dinosaurs. These features, the centerpiece of the park's attractions, often appear to be "on fire" by reflecting the sun's rays.
