The Grand Stairway at the ancient city of Phaestos (Phaistos), the second largest city in Minoan Crete. There was a settlement on the site since about 4000 BC although the first palace dates from 2000 BC. After a series of disasters and destruction the palace was finally sdestroyed by invading Achaens around 1400 BC, about the same time as the destruction of Knossos.
