He now believes that lie b)irns, as the equivalent of a ton of soft coal, 130 gallons of oil at 6 cents a gallon, delivered. The method is extremely simple. Tlic oil company's trucks unload in Mr. An- derson's garage by attaching a hose and running the oil off into two storage tanks in tlie former coal shed under flie two garages. These storage tanks liave a capacity of .3,300 gallons each, or al)out three weeks' supply in midwinter. From these storage tanks the oil is ]ium])ed by an electric pump of less tlian one horsepower, or by a hand ]iump, to a small t.'ink over the boilers. This tank holds about a day's supply of oil and is fitted with a glass in front, like a water column. From this tank a I'y-inch oil ]ii]ie runs down to the burners. This oil pipe is enclosed in a 2-inch steam pipe that descends from the top of the boilers. The steam heats the oil to a temperature of about 120 de- grees Fahrenheit. A small quantity of steam is released with the oil as it en- ters the burners. Tliis liglitens the oil, saves waste and makes a better spr.'iv.
