Alaska, USA - 21 May 2010; no people in view. Photographed from the Seward to Anchorage scenic railway, these are the mudflats of Turnagain Arm; this is a narrow waterway leading into the northwestern part of the Gulf of Alaska. It is one of two narrow branches at the north end of Cook Inlet, the other being Knik Arm. This are is subject to climate extremes and massive tide ranges. But not, fortunately, today.
