Albertus Magnus (1193-1280), German theologian. Albertus was a Dominican friar and bishop who applied Aristotle's philosophy to Christian thought. The circular title includes 'Bolstadius', a reference to him being the son of the Count of Bollstadt. The caption is also in Latin. This artwork appeared in 'Bibliotheca Chalcographica' (1652-1669), published in nine parts and itself based on 'Icones virorum illustrium' (1597-1598). This copy is from the Bibliotheque nationale de France (BnF).
