Nor can Iforget the gloom depicted on the doctors countenance when he in-formed the poor criminal that executive clemency had been positivelydenied him, and the only hope was to prepare to meet a just and mer-ciful God. Doctor Bayliss is beloved by both congregations of which he hashad charge in this city. His dignity of manner and efficient and poet-ical talent secure him the respect and confidence of his hearers,and have attracted many who are without the pale of his or any otherchurch to hear him.
