Skutstjesilen is a sailing race between old sailing boats called skutsjes. The sport started when the sailors didn’t make a lot of profits. The owners of the market saw the sailing races as a good promotion for their market so they started to organize the races. The sailors could win a lot of money with the races. Until 1850 when the organisation for water sports was founded. Because of the organisation many sailors stopped sailing at the races. Only a few sailors how where hooked on the race kept going on. After the Second World War a few people putted Skutsjesilen back on the official list of sailing races. Now after 50 years it is more popular then ever before. Friesland is a province in the north of the Netherlands and part of the bigger region known as Frisia. Its name in the Frisian language is Fryslân,
