The lighthouse at Point Conception, California
Point Conception is one of the most isolated and inaccessible places on the California coast, a rocky point known for its bracing winds, persistent fog and unpredictable currents. Built in 1882, the lighthouse stands 133 feet above sea level. It is one of the oldest and most picturesque lighthouses in California. The station is operated by the United States Coast Guard and surrounded by private ranch land with restricted public access. Point Conception is believed by the native Chumash Indians to be a power spot on the planet. In the spring, migrating gray whales are often visible from the cliffs.
