As a cooper he worked in a sugarliouse at Hastings-on-the-Hudson for oneyear and nine months, and on the ist ofJanuary, 1S76, returned to New York city,and he was employed as a brewer and cooperuntil October, 1879, when he came to Wis-consin, locating in Baraboo in Novemberof that year.
