Dinosaur footprint fossils. Fossils appear as rock slowly forms around objects buried in mud. As the rock forms, the shape and anatomy of buried animals and plants can be preserved, including tracks such as these footprints. These tracks were left by a Plateosaurus dinosaur. These dinosaurs lived in the Late Triassic (216 to 199 million years ago), with their fossils being found in Central and Northern Europe. This specimen was found in the Gard region of southern France.
