During his early life, when not engaged as betbrestated, lie was employed at farm work during thesuinnier, and attended the inferior common schoolsof tli()se days in the winter, thus obtaining his edu-cation. He lived in Canada si.\ years, and then marriedMiss Hannah Herrick, and settled in Wilson, Ni-agara Co., N. Y., where he remained nine vears, re-moving in 18o5 to Michigan, and settling in Shia-wassee County
