Septbr 12th 1861 resulting in sloughing of superficial tissues, inflammation and adhesion of peritoneum, giving rise to pain and diarrhoea from exercise especially on horseback. He is also suffering from the result of a luxation of the left shoulder caused by being thrown from his horse, occurring in August 1861 at Jefferson City Mo, interfering moterally[?] with the motion of the arm. In consequence of these injuries he is in my opinion unable to perform the duties of his office in the field and unfit to undergo the fatigues and exposures incident to field service.
