Aptera was an ancient city in western Crete built from the 7th century BC which was destroyed in 824 AC and is nowadays an archeological site. The monestary of St. John Theologos was built in the 12th century. Aptera war ein wichtige Stadt im Westen Kretas und wurde bereits im siebten Jahrhundert vor Christus von den Dorern erbaut. 824 nach Christus zerstört ist die Stadt heute eine archäologische Stätte. Das Kloster des Agios Ioannis Theologos wurde im 12. Jahrhundert erbaut.
