In the spring of 1878 he foundemployment at Stohls City brewery,Walla Walla, where, by reason of hisfaithful attention to business, he wasrapidly advanced to the position ofgeneral manager. About this periodhe made an unfortunate investment ofa large part of his savings in a min-ing Edward P. Edsen. We next find tihe subject of thissketch, in 1881, conducting a real estateand insurance agency at Walla Wallain partnership with Judge V. D. Lam-bert. In the summer of 83 Mr. Edsenvisited the Sound, finally locating atSeattle in December. In January fol-lowing he was admitted to the mastery of no less than sevenlanguages soon secured him the majorportion of the foreign law businessof the city. He readily gained recog-nition as one of the leaders of thebar, his business affairs prospered,while his popularity grew with hiscircle of acquaintances. In Novem-ber, 1889, Mr. Edsen) found a lawpartnership with Will H. Thompsonand John E. Humphries, under thestyle of Thompson, Edsen and Hum- phries, which partnership continuedfor eight years developing into one ofthe leading law firms on the Coast. Mr. Edsen has been an active fac-tor in the militia organizations of thestate. In 1884 he founded Company D,N. G. W., being its first captain. Heis
