Maine, Mast of the Maine, between 1909 and 1914. Mast of United States Navy ship that exploded and sank in Havana Harbour on February 15, 1898, contributing to the outbreak of the Spanish-American War. The mast was later made into a memorial in Arlington National Cemetery, honoring those who died on board. From a crew of 355, 261 were killed.
