Influenza vaccination. Winter vaccination campaign preparations with the vaccine for influenza A. This vaccine contains inactivated virions, or particles, of strains of the influenza (flu) virus. When injected, the vaccine stimulates the body's immune system to produce antibodies. The immune system can then respond quickly against future infections. The vaccine is updated annually for new strains, and given to people at risk, such as the elderly and very young. Photographed at the university hospital of St Luc, in Brussels, Belgium, in October 2009.
