View E of the truncated nave, central tower, N transept & presbytery of Talley Abbey, Carmarthenshire, Wales, UK. Founded 1184-94 by the Lord Rhys (Rhys ap Gruffudd, Welsh prince of Deheubarth) for Premonstratensian canons. Work started on a nave of eight bays with N & S aisles, but this was reduced in the C13th to a nave & S aisle of four bays with the W door inserted halfway down the nave. The abbey is situated at the head of two lakes (Welsh name Talyllychau = 'head of the lakes') which drain northwards via a stream flowing towards the Afon Cothi. The abbey was suppressed in 1536.
