John Alcock and Arthur Brown were British aviators who made the first non-stop transatlantic flight in 1919. They flew a modified First World War Vickers Vimy bomber from St. John’s, Newfoundland, to Clifden, County Galway, Ireland. The flight lasted 16 hours and was fraught with challenges, including abysmal weather and navigation difficulties. Despite a graceless landing in a bog, their journey was a triumph, marking a significant milestone in aviation history. They were knighted by King George V for their achievement.
