The water leg sheet is intended to extend from above theconnection to the crown sheet to provide lugs to which willbe attached sling stays from the boiler, thereby insuring aconvenient and reliable means of staying. In addition to thisit is intended to run some long stay rods from the top of theboiler to the bottom of the auxiliary water leg. to relieve theother stays from the weight of water and metal suspendedfrom the crown sheet. The tie bar that extends across the bot-tom of the flrebox to prevent spreading is arranged to engagethe auxiliary water leg, with a view to increasing its stability. It is also proposed to use with this boiler a combinationwater tube and shaking grate, the latter to be of the Yinglingtype, each alternating section reversing its movement, whichin connection with its small divisions has a tendency to work.
