The early days of Mr. Cunninghams life were spent in his nativecommunity, and it was in the public schools of that city and Charles-town that he received his education. This training was supple-mented by a course in a commercial college in Boston in after graduation he entered his fathers iron works,founded in 1852, and three years later became superintendent ofthe works. He continued in this business during the rest of hisactive business Hfe and gained a wide reputation for reliable methodsand honorable success. In 1876 Mr. Cunningham was admitted to partnership, the firmname becoming Thomas Cunningham and Son. Upon the death ofhis father on July 9, 1882, the firm name was changed
