The town hall Leeuwarden was built by city carpenter Claes Bockes Balck. 1715. The classicistic three-storey building has a facade with 27 windows. Above the door in the middle risalite is the inscription in gold letters "Pace et Justitia" (Peace and Justice). The two statues above the entrance are by Gerbrandus van der Haven. Pieter Nauta made the pediment, containing the City Virgin, flanked by putti.
