The Canal Basin at Castlefield, Manchester, is crossed by four large railway viaducts. The southern viaduct in the group (background) is the red brick viaduct of the Manchester South Junction and Altrincham Railway built in 1849. A m span cast iron bridge takes the viaduct across the basin.
