The Canal Basin at Castlefield, Manchester, is crossed by four large railway viaducts. The southern viaduct in the group (background) is the red brick viaduct of the Manchester South Junction and Altrincham Railway built in 1849. A m span cast iron bridge takes the viaduct across the basin. A portrait shot from Potato Wharf towards the 1894 tubular steel and now disused Great Northern Viaduct, and modern Tangerine PR Agency building, morning sun and clouds reflecting in an arm of the canal basin.
