Hazy sky view crooked tree branch lying sea ice, salt marsh between Fairhaven and St Annes, south across Ribble Estuary to Southport, Lancashire, UK

The winter of 2010-2011 included the coldest December since Met Office Records began in 1910. The mean December 2010 temperature was minus 1 degree Celsius. In some place the temperature was down to minus 10 degrees Celsius. Late November to Boxing Day 2010 included two spells of severe winter weather in the UK with very low temperatures and significant snowfall. The beach between Fairhaven and St Annes, on Lancashire's Fylde Coast, in December 2010 displayed large areas of land-fast sea ice, several centimetres thick. Grey clouds hazy sky view of crooked tree branch lying on sea ice expanse in front of salt marsh grass, between Fairhaven and St Annes, looking south across the sunshine waters of the River Ribble Estuary towards Southport.
