On the 26th ofJune the extreme right of our armyat Mechanicsville was attacked bythe rebels in force, and from thattime until July ist, when the battleof Malvern Hill was fought, we ex-perienced all the trials and suffer-ings incident to a forced march ofsix days, without sleep, shelter orregular food. At Malvern Hill, ourDivision having been among thefirst to arrive was naturally assignedthe most important position.
