The tiow of blood which soon started,and the stinging pain that followed, was the first thing that assured me thatthe ball had entered my body. Then, by the coughing and spitting of was assured that it had entered my lungs. I was taken to the field hospitalnear by. and when they got around to dress the wound the surgeons foundthat the ball had entered my right side butt-end foremost, cutting out threethicknesses of my overcoat and lining, a thickness of my blouse and lining,and a thickness of my shirt, and through both ^ driven them.
