'Portrait of Feodor Nikitich, (Patriarch Filaret)', first half of 19th century. Copy of an earlier portrait. Detail. The son of a prominent Russian boyar, Feodor Nikitich Romanov became Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia in 1619. He was de facto ruler of Russia during the reign of his son, Tsar Michael, the first Romanov emperor. Found in the collection of The Hermitage, St Petersburg.
