A Hamar man comes of age by leaping over a line of cattle. After this ceremony he is allowed to own cattle, marry and have children. Afterwards as part of the ceremony the female relatives of the man have their backs whipped, this creates a debt to the woman, so that if she faces adversity in the future he will repay the debt.
