A gray wolf named Spirit seen in Banff National Park in Alberta Canada. Spirit was the Alfa male the family.
Spirit, the breeding male from the Bow Valley Wolf Pack, is seen here exhausted, moments after being released, after parks personnel captured him for the purpose of affixing a GPS tracking collar to him. If you look closely, you can see that Spirit's tongue is bleeding. Most likely he bit it during his confinement in the net used to catch him. The wolf is followed by helicopter until a net can be deployed from a type of gun. The Parks personnel then land the helicopter and affix the collar. The collar will be used to track his movement and is programmed to fall off after a predetermined amount of time. Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada, winter 2012. Photo by Gus Curtis.
