Taddiport Leper Fields, Devon: two surviving Medieval strip fields used for cultivation by occupants of the leper hospital around 1300.

Taddiport Leper Fields: two surviving Medieval strip fields used for cultivation by occupants of the Taddiport leper hospital around 1300. There were originally seven long narrow fields with earthen banks and laid hedges in what is now one large modern field to the R (W). The two strips or 'straps' were restored by MAFF in a 10-year programme under the Countryside Stewardship Scheme. The strips are manured only by grazing stock and left fallow October to March each year. General landscape view looking SW over the River Torridge from Old Maid's Walk. Given to Great Torrington Town Lands Charity by Mr I. McKinnon.
