'Göthe', 19th century. Engraving after a painting by Ludwig von Schwanthaler of a statue designed by him of German writer, poet, dramatist and scientist Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832). The bronze statue of Goethe as Poet Laureate, was erected in Frankfurt am Main in Germany in 1844. Goethe is holding in his left hand a laurel wreath and a scroll in his right hand. On the pedestal are reliefs with scenes from Goethe's works. [Brain & Payne, London]
