Meki River Delta, Ethiopia, October 2013 Gure Sambeta, 28, has five children and leases her land to the owner of the irrigation pump. They grow onions on the land and share the produce equally. She’s been irrigating the land for two years. Before irrigating she earned 10,000 Birr a year growing maize now she makes between 50,000 and 100,000 birr each year.
